Juliana Ballard from the US Department of State spoke with students about her 20 year career in the foreign service. She has served in management positions at the embassies in Mexico City, Mexico, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Chennai, India, Washington DC, Brasilia, Brazil and most recently, Kyiv, Ukraine.

During her tour in Ukraine, she was responsible for all management operations for an embassy of 220 U.S. direct hires, 400 eligible family members, and over 600 local staff.

The students asked questions about living abroad, working for the state department, what they should do in university and post-grad, and what Ms. Ballard’s experience was like in the months leading up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
